Once there was a Fox who lived in a deep, dense forest. For as long as Fox could remember, his only friend had been Star, who lit the forest paths each night. But then one night Star was not there, and Fox had to face the forest all alone.
What a gorgeous book, I loved the simplicity of the words and how they were arranged on the page. The beautiful illustrations just sold it for me, I sat down in the bookshop and read the whole thing and then bought it.
‘The Fox and the Star’ is an original fable written by Coralie Bickford-Smith and you follow Fox’s journey through the forest to find his only friend Star.It is very moving tale, you see how the fox relies and depends on Star and his struggle in the darkness until he learns to face his fears.
Unlike most children’s books, it is published in a glorious hardback cover embellished with silver vines and lovely typography. As you read along, you may recognise the artwork style from the ornate book covers from Penguin Classics range which are designed by Coralie. I now know who to blame or credit, for encouraging me to read more classics and buy more books! If you haven’t seen the range before, I highly recommend that you take a look, you may find yourself leaving with a number of copies.
I haven’t included any illustrations from the book as I don’t want to spoil anything but I guarantee you won’t regret your purchase. A captivating and magical read for all
adults children. Dare I say it, the perfect gift for the upcoming celebrations… Enjoy.
